Rules and Regulations for:

10. Dr. Tara Chandra Foundation for Surgical Education and Research (1991)

The Dr. Tara Chandra Foundation for Surgical Education and Research has instituted the following awards:

Dr. Tara Chandra Surgical Foundation most distinguished award for senior teacher of surgery in the province.
Dr. Tara Chandra Surgical Foundation Award for outstanding work by a junior teacher in surgery in UP.
Foundation Award for best undergraduate student in surgery in UP

(Rules & Regulations as adopted by executive committee on 31/03/2003 and passed by general body on 01/11/2003 during UPASICON 2003 at Lucknow)
› Eminent Senior Surgical Teacher of UP:
Eligibility: A teacher in surgery will be considered for this award when he is above the age of 45 years on 30th June of that year.
Secretary UPASI will invite curriculum vitae in six copies from all the teachers of department of surgery of all Medical Colleges of UP (State & Central) and also request various Heads of the Department of Surgery of all Medical Colleges of UP to persuade their teachers to do so.
Out of the curriculum vitae so received the selection committee will select teacher for Eminent Senior Surgical Teacher.
The teachers will also be requested to update their curriculum vitae every year and should include the following:
Date of birth
Essential Qualification
Full qualification, teaching & research experience
List of Publications and their proof
Criteria for Selection:
Candidate must be M.S. (General Surgery)
He must be life member of ASI
He must be having registration with UP Medical Council
He must be actively participating in the activities of UP Chapter and ASI. He must be attending Annual Conferrences/ Workshops of State Chapter and ASI and presenting scientific papers and Chairing Scientific sessions during the last three years.
He should not be member of Dr. Tara Chandra Surgical Education & Research Foundation award committee.
His curriculum vitae and additional information to update it must have been received by 30th June every year.
Award: Cash award of Rs. 5000.00 (Rupees Five Thousand Only) and a Scroll.


› Young Outstanding Surgical Teacher of UP:
Eligibility: A teacher in surgery will be considered for this award when he has put in a minimum of 10 years of continuous service as teacher and less than 20 years in the Department of Surgery including super-speciality.
Secretary UPASI will invite curriculum vitae in six copies from all the teachers of department of surgery of all Medical Colleges of UP (State & Central) and also request various Heads of the Department of Surgery of all Medical Colleges of UP to persuade their teachers to do so.
Out of the curriculum vitae so received the selection committee will select teacher for Eminent Senior Surgical Teacher.
The teachers will also be requested to update their curriculum vitae every year and should include the following:

› Best Student Award:
A senior teacher in department of surgery of any medical college in UP will be given the responsibility by the executive committee of UPASI for selecting candidate for this award.
He will intimate the date and time of examination to various candidates.
Examination and/ or interview will conducted of only those candidates of State Medical Colleges, who have obtained highest marks in PGME examination of current year and who have joined as JR I in department of surgery and whose candidature has been recommended by the respective Heads of Departments of Surgery of the college concerned. For the candidature of Central Institutions namely Varanasi and Aligarh the merit of their own examination for the current year, will be considered.
No TA/ DA will be paid to the students for attending the test/ examination. However no registration fee will be charged by the Organizing Secretary for that year’s conference from the student declared selected for the Best Student Award.
Award: Cash award of Rs. 1000.00 (Rupees One Thousand Only) and a Scroll.
