UP Chapter ASI
FROM THE DESK OF PRESIDENT

Dr. V.S. Tiwari M.S., F.I.C.S.
Dear fellow members,
First of all I thank my Gurus, Seniors, Juniors, and my former students who showed my confidence in me by electing me, President UP Chapter, ASI-2007-08. I express my gratitude and regards to them.
Laying down of state chapters of ASI was the innovative idea of our great teacher, professor TARA CHANDRA. The annual conference of National body of ASI became crowdy and expensive too. The close association of members became difficult. The establishement of various state chapters was the need of the time, where the members can interact, exchange views, and meet each other once a year more closely. Thus the UP Chapter of ASI was late down in 1975. The founder members were only 45 and I was also the fortunate one. Since then strength is increasing and our membership has reached more than 1000. Yet several young surgeons of our state are still left. I request my friends to encourage the surgeons in their vicinity to takeup the membership and make the chapter largest and I am sure, we are capable of. I further request my colleagues to ensure that every post graduate student becomes member of our association as soon as he passes though MS examination.
It is my observation that the members, specially of private and service sector, are less enthusiatic in activities of chapter. The postal stamped ballet paper lies unused on their desk though it needs a couple of minutes to tick the name and drop it in the letter box. The attendance in annual conferences is also thin even though the conferences have recently become more useful by the addition of 1 day live workshop. I sincerely request the members for their active participation in the chapter's activity. It not only enriches our knowledge but also gives an opportunity to meet our old friends and refresh our memories. The valuable time spent on this from your busy schedule is worth it. Please keep informing your changed address and contact numbers, so that your mail does not come back undelivered.
The surgical science and technology is fast changing. CME and live workshops have become necessary to update our knowledge. If you have any idea of organizing CME/ Live Workshop at your place, please come forward, we shall give you all help and directions in this regards.
I again request service/ private sector surgeons to be more enthusiatic in respect to our chapter. Success lies in you cooperation. I assure you, me and our new secretary Dr. S.K. Misra shall leave no stone unturned in upliftment of chapter and make it more vibrant. Lastly I thank Dr. Rajan Luthra, outgoing secretary, who conducted the activities of our chapter so sincerely inspite of his busy schedule. I also thank Prof. D.R. Singh & Prof. A.K. Khanna, past presidents, for their valuable contribution in their regimn.
Fanally, I wish all members a healthy, wealthy and a prosperous year-2008.
Thanks With warm regards,
Dr. V.S. Tiwari
